Christian Lacroix, born in 1951, is one of the most influential fashion designers of all time. Born in France, he grew up in a city renowned for festivals and vintage clothes laced with hats and modern heels. Many say that this was the inspiration of Lacroix's fashion taste. Lacroix spent considerable time visiting art museums and also spent his time reading books. After completing high school in 1969, Lacroix studied Art History in college. He wanted to become a curator in a museum. It was in college where he met his future partner Françoise.
During this time, Lacroix was introduced to Jean-Jacques Picart, who was connected to some haute couture houses. This exposure of Picart paved the way for Lacroix getting a job at Hermes. Three years later, Lacroix found a job with Guy Paulin. Months later, after finishing his studies, Lacroix began working for Jean Patou. Getting substantial help from Picart, Lacroix launched seasonal clothes. His items were brightly colored, exuding luxury and perfection. His clothes made the duo one of the more popular fashion designers of their generation. In January 1986, Lacroix was awarded the "most influential designer."
Christian Lacroix began his own couture house in 1987. He diversified into ready-to-wear clothes in the next year. He drew a lot of inspiration from various cultures. However he was mostly criticized for his designs, as critics said he did not have a good grasp of clothing the professional woman. Lacroix also has boutiques in various parts of the world.
