The UK's fashion industry is worth around 44.5 billion. But because of Chinese imports, an estimated 5% of our household expenses are used to buy us fashionable clothes and shoes.

There are a lot of UK brands that are famous not only in their area but in the entire world as well. To name a few, there is Marks and Spencer (market leader in high fashion), Primark and TK Maxx. The younger generation however loves to buy exclusively from Prada (Italy), Hugo Boss (Germany), Chloe (France), Burberry (UK) and Donna Karan (US).

Because there has been an increase of cheap imports, it nearly eliminated the industry of UK manufacturing. UK manufacturing focuses on special luxury products and specialist fashion clothing. The top three retailers of fashion in the UK are Next, Marks and Spencer and Arcadia (Topshop, BHS, Dorothy Perkins, etc). who still choose to make and retail their own personal brands and lines of clothing. However there are exceptions to this rule which favor hiring specialist retailers for their brands, namely, Nike, Reebok and Adidas.

To summarize, we know that the UK fashion market will always be manipulated by retailers instead of manufacturers with a combination of discounters and retailers that offer full price. The latter will target the younger generation's need for quality materials, couture-house designs and individual styles which are marketed as "fast fashion" with limited offerings before they release new items. We all know that fashion trends in the UK will flourish in the many years to come.
